My friend and I both have kids with Down Syndrome in our family so I spent a few months, few years ago trying to help her get this app called FireGuide off the ground as a "going concern". We failed. But the app is pretty good https://www.kidfiresafety.co

I bought my kids a fire escape ladder for their second floor window. When I take away their devices they like to practice escaping with it. Maybe we should keep our important papers in the same box.

I just read this laying in my mom’s bed on a visit to her little studio home in Petaluma, Ca., and there’s a small wooden box of “important things” on her dresser, in case she ever needs to evacuate. A few years ago she had her car packed, it seemed like the call would come any minute for a period of a few weeks. That was before the pandemic; everyone here had N-95s ready to haul out again. Now it seems the masks and the little boxes are here to stay.
